The annual Archives Crawl is rapidly approaching! The State Library’s California History Room will be participating again with some “weird and wonderful collections” on display. In addition, scavenger hunt partipants will be entered into a drawing with a chance to win a Samsung Tab 4 Nook. Three Nooks will go to K-5 grade students, three to 6-12 grade students, and three to adult participants.
Kathleen Correia, head of the CA History Section, describes the upcoming event below:
Weird and wacky: the California History Room book and ephemera display for September and October:
In conjunction with the 7th Annual Sacramento Archives Crawl, the displays in the California History Room celebrate the weird, wacky and wonderful from California History Section’s collections. The theme of this year’s Sacramento Archives Crawl is: “It came from the archives?! : celebrating the weird & wonderful from regional collections”. The books on display in the California History Room range from Weird California: your travel guide to California’s local legends and best kept secrets to Only in California: fabulous facts, weird happenings, and eccentric ephemera from America’s most altered state. There’s also lots of cool ephemera in the display case including photos of the Winchester Mystery House, the mystery spot in Santa Cruz, snake handlers and more. Please stop by Room 200 in the Annex to take a look at these amazing materials.
